 ● ECOWAS celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.  
      ○ The organization has played a significant role in promoting economic integration and political stability in West Africa.
      ○ Over the years, ECOWAS has been instrumental in facilitating trade agreements and fostering regional cooperation.
      ○ The anniversary highlights the achievements and challenges faced by the community in its mission to enhance development and prosperity in the region.
      ○ As ECOWAS looks to the future, it continues to focus on sustainable growth and peaceful coexistence among its member states.

About ECOWAS

 ● Foundation: Formed on 28 May 1975 by 15 West African nations via the Treaty of Lagos.  
  ● Headquarters: Located in Abuja, Nigeria.  
  ● Regional Bloc: As of June 2025, ECOWAS includes 12 West African nations.  
  ● Objective: Aims to foster cooperation and integration for an economic union in West Africa, enhance living standards, ensure economic stability, strengthen member relations, and support Africa’s development.  
        ○ Established a free trade area in 1990 and implemented a common external tariff in January 2015.
