Adjournment sine die ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

Sine Die is a Latin phrase that translates to "without assigning a day for a further meeting." In parliamentary terms, it signifies the conclusion of a session of Parliament without scheduling a date to reconvene. The authority to declare this lies with the Presiding Officer, who announces it, followed by the President issuing a notification to prorogue the House, thereby officially ending the session as per Article 85.
Regarding the effect on pending business, all bills that are pending in the same House remain unaffected. However, most notices such as questions, motions, and resolutions lapse and must be resubmitted in the next session unless specified otherwise. It is important to note that Parliament is required to meet at least twice a year, but there is no minimum number of days it must convene annually.
