Arabian Sea Mini Warm Pool
( UPSC Prelims)
News Context
The Arabian Sea MWP is a small area characterized by unusually warm sea surface temperatures (SST) in the Arabian Sea, particularly in the southeastern region near the Kerala coast. A warm pool is identified as a body of very warm water, generally with sea surface temperatures exceeding 28.5°C, which significantly influences regional climate and weather patterns. This phenomenon occurs annually during April and May, just before the onset of the Indian Summer Monsoon. The Arabian Sea Mini Warm Pool (MWP) functions as a self-correcting mechanism that aids the monsoon in recovering from disruptions caused by the previous El Niño.
