Butler Committee Report

The Harcourt Butler Committee under the chairmanship of Sir Harcourt Butler was appointed in 1927.

It was set up to investigate and clarify the relationship between the paramount power of the British Raj in India, and the rulers of Princely States.

William Searle Holdsworth and Sidney Peel were its 2 other members.

It gave its report in 1929, which reaffirmed the British Paramountcy over princely states.

Hurtog Committee Report

The Hartog Committee was established by the Simon Commission in 1929.

The Hartog Committee was formed to report on educational development.

The committee found that the primary education system as it existed had serious flaws.

It recommended large number of reforms for improvement of education especially at Primary level.

Hunter Inquiry

On 14 October 1919, orders were issued by the Secretary of State for India, Edwin Montagu, to set up a committee of inquiry into the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre in Punjab.

Referred to as the Disorders Inquiry Committee, also known as the Hunter Commission.

The Hunter Commission did not impose any penal or disciplinary action on Dyer.

However, he was finally found guilty of a mistaken notion of duty and relieved of his command on 23 March.

Muddiman Committee Report

The Muddiman Committee or the Reforms Enquiry Committee (1924) was a committee lead by Sir Alexander Muddinman.

It was organized by the British and Indian government, to meet the demand of Indian leaders.

This committee would aid in investigating the diarchy issue under the Indian Council Act of 1919.

Submitted in September 1925, the combination of these reports recommended the appointment of a Royal Commission.
