At the ‘M4’ position of the diagram the height of the tide is at maximum because, in this position earth, moon and sun lie in a straight line.

Tides are based on the Sun, Moon and Earth's Positions.

Depending upon the position of the sun and moon with respect to the earth. Two types of tides are Spring tides and neap tides.

Spring tides: During spring tides, the sun, the moon and the earth are in a straight line.

o They occur twice a month, one during the full moon period and another during the new moon period.

Neap tides: During neap tides, the sun and moon are at right angles to each other and the forces of the sun and moon tend to counteract one another. Like spring tides, these tides also occur twice a month.

The above information eliminates options (A) and (C). Between Option (B) and (D), (D) will have high tides due to the sun and moon being on the same side.
